MG manages its own milk transport fleet and some post-factory distribution – operating one of Australia’s largest private fleets.

Operating approximately 170 trucks, with up to 400 drivers, managing over 3 billion litres of milk, MG operates milk collection depots out of 7 sites throughout Victoria.  Staff at these depots service and maintain the fleet.

Forty-eight of the 170 prime movers operate as B-Doubles. The increased use of B-Doubles over the past ten years has significantly increased productivity and reduced kilometres travelled.

Although most collection is within Victoria, the MG fleet collects milk as across three states, from Adelaide in South Australia, to Finley in NSW and to Orbost in far east Gippsland.

In 2009/10 the fleet travelled over 21 million kilometres and carried approximately 3 billion litres of milk as well as finished goods.

The milk transport farm to factory fleet operates under an accredited Mass Management system that provides significant efficiencies to its farm collection operations.

The transport management team reports through to the transport operations manager based in the co-operative’s Melbourne head office.

MG strives to innovate in areas such as driver safety and transport efficiency. MG helped pioneer the use of Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) in heavy transport vehicles.
